How to enjoy favourite pastime with little cashflow

With rising prices of goods plus the recent Malaysian government implementation of SST beginning 1/9/2018, many would have to tighten their belts by reducing the luxury and to save more. But it doesn't mean you need to sacrifice your leisure until zero. Here I teach you some tips to save money and still able to enjoy your favourite leisure:

1) Enjoy when there is discount

On every visit to any eateries or shops, please aware of discounts and promotions to enjoy every benefits from food or purchases. Of course you need to study the terms and conditions plus spending needs prior to enjoy the discounted offer. Example of discounts are from Parkson.

2) Use promo codes

Whenever you're using online shopping or ordering voucher or transportation or online shopping, the discount will always comes in promo code. It basically advises you to insert the alphanumerical code to enjoy discounts with minimum purchase as per limited period while stock last. Quite useful for the services and shops you frequent patronize. Promo codes can be obtained from limited offer newsletter at website or directly from app, or rewarded from certain loyalty membership. Example of promo codes are Grab, Lazada, and Shoppee

3) Use coupons, vouchers

Similar to promo code, coupons and vouchers allows you to save on purchases and services, and it can be in paper form or in online form. The only differences is the voucher and coupons need to be purchased or obtained first but at the savings price compared to normal price. After the voucher is purchased, customer can present it to the cashier whom will scan the barcode and enter the code to redeem the voucher. Example of coupons and vouchers are AEON shopping vouchers and offer vouchers from MyDiGi app.

4) Use cashless e-wallet

Besides the convenience of cashless payment, most e-wallet also offer rewards and cashback under certain purchase or promotions. GrabPay for example rewards customers not only with GrabRewards points but also offers discounts and promotions as well when payment is made via GrabPay. Boost meanwhile offers shake cashback rewards plus voucher purchase at discounted price.

5) Be alert for any freebies and out coming promotions

Websites such cuponation.com.my, and malaysiafreebies.com offers varieties of discounts and promotions of the month. Customer can have prior knowledge on the promotions of the month prior to enjoying the offer.

How to get back to normal after the World Cup

I'm sure everything will be struggling to get back to normal life, particularly after one month of World Cup football seasons, right? Well here is some tips to get back on your life track after a long football fever:

1) Sell or store off your World Cup related memerobilia

Having those World Cup magazines, team scarves, World Cup merchandise which is only worth as collectibles after the World Cup? Well, you can either store it as memories or just sell it online via Carousell, Lazada, or Shopee. Who knows the items you may think useless and worthless may have demand somewhere? At least you can earn some money from it. One word of advice though, if your memorabilia involves team which performs horribly in this year World Cup edition, it might be worth quite even less as every football fans will remember that particular team disappointing performance!

2) Reschedule back your lifestyle after World Cup

Football season is over, now lets get back to work wholeheartedly. That is your own personal message on your life after football season, especially your sleeping pattern, diet habits, and family relations which much changed during the long football fever. Get disciplined on your own self and your relations with your family and back on track your good habit which you have lacked during the long football season.

3) Still have mood for football? Then wait for new season Premier League, La Liga, and Bundesliga

It will another one month or more before major football leagues in Europe will begin the new seasons. When it began, who knows you may watch some of the players whom had played in the World Cup plays for major club. It is not surprising that most players from most World Cup appearing countries will be signed by major clubs in Europe as their potential is fully realized.

How we Malaysian can maintain alertness and sleeping pattern during World Cup season?

Every four years, the whole world regardless of races, gender, age will come together for the FIFA World Cup. This year in 2018, the FIFA World Cup will be held in Russia.

As time difference between Malaysia and Russia (eastern side since all venues are focused there) is approximately 5 hours (it differs from cities as it has different timezone. The matches in the World Cup itself will be from 1700 to 2100 time frame (Russian time, timezone differs from cities throughout the country), which is equivalent to 2000 to 0200 (the next day) time frame (Malaysia time)

With most matches are at late night, all Malaysian football fans have no choice but to sacrifice their sleep for the quadannual event. So here I share the 5 most useful tips Malaysian can stay alert during World Cup season:

TIP 1 - Choose most exciting matches only (especially on working weekend)

This is the simplest rule to follow during World Cup season, choose only the most exciting matches to watch from the choices of 64 matches. It is almost impossible to watch all the matches especially in the first round which can severely disrupt your sleep, so plan ahead on which match to watch. It will not be a problem on the Friday night and weekends or during public holidays when you're not working, you can watch all the matches you want, but mind your sleep and health! For additional information, the Aidilfitri holidays (15/6 & 16/6 or extra depends on individual approved annual leave) falls during the World Cup season, so the holidays itself it up to you to decide the number to match to watch later.

TIP 2 - Food and bevearages to stay alert at work after watching a match.

After adhering the tip 1 above, when you're back at work, it goes without saying that you need to maintain alertness for productivity. Coffee is the best bevearages to maintain alertness as it contains caffeine, but drink it in moderate amount to avoid caffeine addiction. Other possible food or drinks to stay alert includes green tea, milo, chocolate, water, citrus fruits. All of these foods provides energy plus essential nutrients to help you stay up for the working day even after the long hour match.

TIP 3 - Brief exercise at work.

Another way to maintain alertness is do some light exercise before or during work. There is no need for vigorous exercise which may overstressing your body after less sleep from the World Cup matches. Do some minutes of stretching which not only relieve sore muscles and regain alertness. This rules can be applied as well after long hours at the computers, take some minutes out from the screen to do some stretching and eye exercise to reduce eye strain.

TIP 4 - Plan your sleep and nap early.

Once you had planned the matches to watch in advance, based on the time of the match you need to establish the sleeping pattern plus nap pattern before and after the match. Let say for example, the match you want to watch is at 10pm Malaysian time, that means after dinner you need to set aside sufficient sleeping time immediately after dinner, plus after watching the match until the time you need to wake up in the morning like this:

7:00pm Back from work
7:30pm Quick dinner
8:00pm Brief sleep
10:00pm Your favourite matches
0:00am Sleep
7:30am Prepare to work

Of course the changes in pattern differs from individual sleeping time and time of your favourite matches, but most importantly plan ahead so that the excitement of the game will not severely disrupt your sleeping pattern. Avoid any activities or food that can disrupt your planned sleep. Every minutes of rest, nap, or better still, sleep can be critical to maintain your alertness.

TIP 5 - Avoid alcohol and caffeine during match, replace it with nutritious meal if possible.

The last tip to share here is avoid alcohol and caffeine during any match. Alcohol should be avoided as it can disrupt our normal body function as the aftermath of alcohol consumption can take longer time to dissipate, which might disrupt your work alertness, it also goes without saying that excessive alcohol consumption bad for your health especially liver, plus excessive consumption is dangerous especially if the individual requires driving. Caffeine consumption such as coffee, Coca-Cola should be reduced as it can disrupt your planned sleep pattern as per tip 4 above, which ironically the ingredient is vital for your work time later. Another drinks to be reduced during match are sugary drinks which is bad for your body sugar level.

If possible, try substitute both alcohol and caffeine with food rich in carbohydrates, protein, or fruit juices. In Malaysia, it can be difficult to find food alternatives for alcohol, caffeinated drinks, or sugary drinks. Since most of the World Cup matches are at late night, the matches will mostly broadcasted at 24 hours nasi kandar store or nightclubs, which most of the food and drinks are unhealthy. But fret not, there are some good alternative here such as - fruit juice, roti canai (with egg, banana, or sardine) in small amount, roti bakar (for early breakfast especially if you're watching late the 0200 match). Try to reduce your food and drinks at smaller portion level so that it will not disrupt your digestion at late night and sleeping pattern.

So hopefully the 5 tips I shared earlier can be used to maintain your alertness and health while you're enjoying the favourite World Cup matches.

非回教在斋戒月可给马来回教尊重的5个贴士 5 tips for non Muslims to show respect for Muslims...

How Malaysian non-Muslims show respect to the Muslims during the fasting month of Ramadhan in my version Cantonese. Here is the 5 main tips:

1) Never feast or serve in front of Muslim during fasting time. Not only it is disrespectful, but it can also induce temptation among fasting Muslims. So please feast at the place away from Muslims, or seek permission when you have no choice but to have meal near them, as you don't mean to be rude to them. For this reason as well, some Muslim-operated eating premises will be closed during the Ramadhan fasting month.

2) Ask anything about Ramadhan month knowledge from Muslims. Because they have experience and know the full fasting rules during the month of Ramadhan. Do not pretend you all everything, instead seek answers from Muslim friends on the full knowledge. Be understandable and respectful of their culture and custom. This rule can also be applied on the fourth tip below.

3) Observe respectful etiquette at Ramadhan bazaar. Ramadhan bazaar normally opened few hours prior to breaking fast time with variety of foods and bevearages. It doesn't matter if you're Muslims or non-Muslims, you're welcome to visit and purchase the food and drinks there. However, please observe the rule 1 above after food purchase, or better still eat it at home. If you're been asked whether you're observing fast by the stall owner, politely answer them that you're fasting as well, or inform them you'll only have the food later after 7:30pm, which is few minutes after breaking fast times for all states in Malaysia.

4) Be sincere in fasting and seek Muslim advice if you want to practice fasting. Some non-Muslim might be curious of the concept of fasting like the Muslims do. Personally you can practice it but you must do it sincerely with whole heart. Seek advice from Muslim friends as per rule 2 above. For novice it might be a struggle to shift from normal lifestyle to a restrained lifestyle during fasting so plan ahead to ensure the plan goes smoothly for you health sake.

5) Join Muslims together for breaking fast by following certain etiquette. Breaking fast normally begins at sunset after 7:30pm, which is few minutes after breaking fast times for all states in Malaysia. Non-Muslims can join in for the breaking fast feast with Muslims by obeying rule 1 above prior to sunset azan sound from the mosque which signals time for breaking fast. Most importantly in multi cultural society Malaysia this event can tie the bonds of people from all races together, regardless of races, religions, and cultural background.

Those 5 useful might only be part of the rules, but I hoped it can be used to educate non-Muslims to fully respect the Muslims during the Ramadhan fasting month.

How was the McDonalds Nasi Lemak Burger taste? 麦当劳椰浆饭汉堡包有多好吃?

My first taste of newly-introduced Nasi Lemak Burger from McDonalds. Let see the taste difference between normal nasi lemak and this burger in this video.

First of all, the Nasi Lemak Burger is made up of coconut milk-flavoured burger buns, fried chicken fillet, sambal sauce (chilli paste), sliced cucumber, and fried eggs. It is quite similiar as the normal nasi lemak the only things that is missing is the rice and the anchovies itself as shown in photo below.

You can buy the set meal at only RM16.90 or the a la carte version of only burger at RM11.90. Try it for yourself to experience the difference!

My first shopping with Tesco E-Shop

On 19/4/2018, I made the first grocery purchase via Tesco Online E-Shop.

The reason is I had obtained the e-voucher from my MyBump advertising campaign on Tesco Online shop which I posted on my Facebook wall.

The items purchased are Chesdale Cheese 6 slices, Tesco men disposable razors 5pcs, King's Mint Choc ice cream, and Daisy margarine (which is later replaced with Adela margarine due to stock inavailability)

Once I have ordered the item, I need to choose the time slot for delivery. In this case I chose Saturday 2pm - 4pm delivery slot. To my surprise, the delivery truck come much earlier at around few minutes before 1pm after verifying my residential address on phone conversation.

To purchase groceries online from Tesco, visit the link below:

Any e-voucher should be applied upon checkout. Delivery can be reserved up to 3 weeks. Payment can be done in advance online or when the items is delivered (which is safer so that you can check the item) via Plug N Pay method.

Online shopping is nothing new for me, I had purchased item from Shopee before and it is useful. Now for the TESCO online shopping, why not give it a try? Hopefully I'll have another chance of online shopping with voucher code for savings.

My latest medical checkup results and analysis, and what should I do about it.

On 15/4/2018, I have attended the free medical checkup session organized by OK Pharmacy at Aman Suria in collaboration with 1MCA Foundation.

To locate OK Pharmacy, go to the link here: https://goo.gl/maps/gXtnuB95rMB2

The test being done that day involves blood pressure, blood glucose/cholesterol, body fat analysis, plus more advanced electromagnetic wave scan of whole body. And the results is shown as below:

As it shown above, the results appears normal, but there is some hidden data which did not shown up on the results sheets above. The results and advice are obtained from careful measurement of the health experts.

Lets begin, currently I'm 28 years old, my current height is 170cm with 51.7kg weight, which equates to BMI of 17.9 (lower than normal BMI of 18.5 for normal healthy person)

In terms of blood pressure, it measures at 130/74 which is slightly higher than 120/80. The reason is stressful work life plus lack of good sleep. As I'm currently work as customer service officer plus driving Grab part time, it is difficult to maintain a balance work-life balance unless an effective solution can be found.

For pulse rate, it recorded as 91 pulse/min, which is not much of the concern, considered that I have walked some distance to the pharmacy after I parked my car some distance away.

In term of glucose level, it measures at 5.2mmol/L, which is still in normal range for male (less than 6 mmol/L) considered my last meal is about 4 hours ago, which is more than the recommended minimum fasting time of 2 hours prior to medical checkup.

The checkup also reveals my uric acid level is at normal level at 0.27mmol/L, which is still in normal range for male (0.2 - 0.42 mmol/L). Uric acid are basically created from body naturally or from seafood which is regulated by kidney. The low level of uric acid in our body can also indicates our kidney health.

There is also further test which some of the parameters that I never come across before as per explained below:

  • Body fat it only recorded 6.2% (low, for men normal rate is 10%),
  • Visceral fat at 1.0 (hardness of cholestrol in our body, scale from 1 to 10, lower means less hard)
  • Muscle fat at only 46.0kg (mass of muscle plus fat)
  • Physical rating at 7 (muscle mass and body fat percentage)
  • Bone mass at 2.51g (denser the better as it is vital for full body support from strong bones)
  • BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate, which measures the rate of energy the body must take in terms of food to sustain daily lifestyle) of 1345kJ
  • Metabolic age (by comparing your Basal Metabolic Rate to the average BMR of your chronological age group) of 18
  • Total body water of 62.8% (for men, ideal body water percentage is 50% - 65%)

Further extent of body health test which I done it for the first time are the electromagnetic wave scan for 10 minutes of my whole body, which can reveals more of the internal organ condition which the above checks cannot prove. And this is came as a surprise for me.

According to the health expert whom conducted the electromagnetic scan, due to my current work stress and lack of sleep, my body functions generally functions slowly. Coupled with less than required nutrients taken from food, the amount of nutrients adsorbed by my body decreases. The expert added that my intestinal digestion and liver function to detoxify is slower coupled with slowed nutrients absorption from my guts.

The results gave me realization that my current effort to sustain healthy lifestyle still did not goes far enough and I may over stress myself in the process, but I'm still not too late to completely change my lifestyle.

In summary, after such intensive health checks, there are some resolution that I need to made to improve my healthy lifestyle:

  • Balance my work commitment and my rest time.
  • Avoid unnecessary activities prior to bedtime and to have early bedtime once feeling drowsy.
  • Includes more food intake and in nutritious manner to improve my body nutrition levels.
  • Increases calorie intake in moderate level but not in excessive amount.
  • Improve my exercise level daily.

[VLOG] Spicy Korean noodle eating contest at my company 我的公司韩国辣面比赛

This is my first video vlog which did not show my face. It is the spicy Korean noodles eating contest at Jirnexu on 13/4/2018. The atmosphere is electric as everyone cheer for their friends for the grand prize.

I personally did not dare to take up the challenge as I will have no idea how spicy the Korean noodles are. I did try the Shin Ramyun Kimchi Korean noodles before and it was slightly spicy and sour thanks to Kimchi, which did not goes well with my stomach.

The contest initially begans with three preliminary rounds consists of 4 contestants in each round. The noodles served are Samyang Spicy Korean Noodles 2x spicy. Winner from each round will progress to the three contestants final. Sadly I did not manage to record the whole scene as the main focus is on the final itself.

The finals will be different as it will be Samyang Spicy Korean Noodles 4x spicy that will be served. Despite the increased level of spiciness each contestants raced to the finish.

Here is the picture of the two noodles types served that day:

Samyang Spicy Korean Noodles 2x spicy

Samyang Spicy Korean Noodles 4x spicy

In the end, it was my colleague friend, Norsha bin Rahim @ Iman whom won the challenge. Congratulations for him, he would receive a Philips Bluetooth Speaker sponsored by the company. The 2nd price winner gets the AEON RM50 voucher, while 3rd price winner gets the 5000mAh powerbank.

My first taste of McVeggie

The McVeggie is the newly introduced vegetable ingredient based burger in Malaysia.

The burger itself consists of bun, cabbage, and vegetable-based patty, coupled with mayonnaise (which is not so vegetarian for some)

Basically the so-called meat patty is actually consists of mixed vegetables and beans mixed together in a deep-fried bread-coated batter. When I first taste it is same as normal burger! I could not believe it.

Well if you want to taste it now this McVeggie (single patty or double patty) comes in mix-and-match offer which you can order the burger with other drinks, or any other add-on of your choice at RM5.99.

Watch this video to understand the ingredients behind this auspicious burger. And let see how this burger taste like compare to normal burger. You can also view this video on Dailymotion at http://dai.ly/x6g0p46

Showing around Kuching International Airport while I'm awaiting flight b...

This video was shoot when I'm still waiting for flight back to Kuala Lumpur. Although Kuching International Airport may not be as big as KLIA, this medium size still has something it can offer passenger for.

Being the fourth busiest airport in Malaysia behind Kuala Lumpur International Airport, Kota Kinabalu International Airport, and Penang International Airport, the airport has been the important gateway to Sarawak's capital, Kuching.

After extensive renovation in 2008, the airport not only capable to cater future passengers, but also the runway was able to handle the Airbus A380 Superjumbo. As of 2017, the airport handles nearly 5 million passengers.

Just like KLIA, the airport was renovated not only to handle more flights and passengers, but also to cater more business in an airport which generates more income than airport tax itself.

On the way to departure terminal to board flight for CNY holiday, walking around KLIA2

Sorry for late upload. Let me show you the surronding KLIA2 to show how much this budget airport functions more than just waiting for plane, it is also retail centre, while I'm heading to departure gate for flight back to Kuching for CNY holidays.

KLIA2 were completed in 2014 to cater ever increasing demand of low cost travellers, after several years of delay. But the delay doesn't matter anymore for the convenience and sophistication this low-cost terminal presented.

It is the main hub for AirAsia, world best low-cost carrier plus other local and foreign low-cost carrier.

From the moment you step out of departure area (bus, taxi, or car waiting area), the terminal already features several business premises and amenities for passengers convenience, all the way prior to boarding your flight. As with other airport, business premises generates more income compare to airport tax. Although it is a low-cost terminal, the business premises inside were already resembled like a shopping complex.

INDULGING IN KING'S MILK COOKIES 'N' CREAM (OR IT SHOULD BE KING'S VANIL...

My second video in social media. Now I'm opening the King's Vanilla Cookies 'N' Cream for my midnight snack dessert.
Quite good actually, no need to drink milk and having OREO next time. This ice cream will do the trick enough. Long time never have ice cream after just recovered from my fever, flu, and cough. At a cost of just RM9, worthy to be a snack anytime. You can also view this video on Dailymotion at http://dai.ly/x6ddcb9
